Purpose and vision
ELDSC aims to enhance the Ethiopian leather industry by building up the leather industrial sector with the highest manufacturing capability in Africa. The vision is to create a diversified, globally competitive, environmentally friendly industry capable of significantly improving the living standards of the Ethiopian people by the year 2025.
Projects and initiatives
The Ethiopian Highland Leather Project focuses on adding value to Ethiopian sheep leather and promoting exports from Ethiopia. ELDSC also explores opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area, and strategies to position the Ethiopian leather industry to use those benefits.
Collaboration and growth
ELDSC collaborates with other stakeholders, including the Ethiopian Leather Industries Association, to strengthen the industry. Recent investments by foreign companies in Ethiopia-based factories are helping create jobs and transforming the leather sector. ELDSC aligns with broader initiatives such as the Modjo Leather Industrial Park to create economic and decent employment opportunities, especially for young men and women.
